Firkin Wins at World Gin Awards 2019
Celebrations were the order of the day for Team Firkin as the Edinburgh based craft distillery, once again claimed top placing for two expressions at Round 1 of the World Gin Awards 2019, held in London’s Caledonian Club on Thursday 10th January.
The much acclaimed cask-aged Firkin original won ‘Best in Category’ in the UK matured gins section, adding to category award wins in 2017 and a gold medal placing in 2018.
“We are delighted to be recognized once again at the highly acclaimed World Gin Awards 2019. Firkin Original is where our journey started and was one of the very first cask-aged gins on the market, so we are naturally delighted to have been placed as Best in Category. “ Derek Mair, Founder – Firkin Gin
Firkin Rosie, the 2018 launched rose petal and strawberry infused gin received a gold placing in the ‘UK flavoured’ category; previously having been recognized as a finalist in the 2018 Scottish Gin Awards – ‘Speciality Gin’ category.
“Firkin Rosie is one of our most recent small-batch releases and is proving to be a hit with gin lovers looking for a sweeter taste. This is a great achievement for us within the ‘UK flavoured’ category and we now look forward to the next announcements at the Gin Magazine Awards in February.” Derek Mair, Founder – Firkin Gin.
Celebrating the world’s best gins, The World Gin Awards is part of the World Drinks Awards; global awards selecting the very best in all internationally recognised styles of drinks. The World Drinks Awards select, reward and promote the world’s best drinks to consumers and trade across the globe.
Each gin must go through a rigorous three-step process of judging. First each gin is tasted in its relevant style to identify and select the style winners. Judges making up the World Gin Awards panel include international, leading journalists, specialist drinks retailers and industry experts.
Style winners are then tasted against each other to identify the best gin in each category and finally, the best gins in each category are then tasted against each other one last time to select the world’s best gin.
